Some of these measures are said to involve zip ties on door handles, plastic water bottles stuck in a hub cab, or sitting on the hood.\n</p><p>Though officials claim that these messages are only \u201curban legends,\u201d it is nonetheless advisable to empower oneself with knowledge.\n</p><p>Following a weird contact with a stranger in a parking lot, a TikTok member is now concerning others about perilous circumstances using \u201ckidnapper tactics.\u201d\n</p><p><img fetchpriority='\"high\"' decoding='\"async\"' class='\"aligncenter' size-full wp-image-87219 src="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/justmetalking.com%5C/wp-content%5C/uploads%5C/2024%5C/08%5C/bottle-water-car-holder.png%5C%22" alt='\"\"' width='\"671\"' height='\"672\"' srcset='\"https:\/\/justmetalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/bottle-water-car-holder.png' https: sizes='\"(max-width:'>\n</p><p>Haley West recounts that after doing her shopping, she was returning to her vehicle, which was parked in the lot of a Cincinnati supermarket.\n</p><p>As she approached her car, a guy screamed at her.\n</p><p>She said on TikTok, \u201cI\u2019m literally shaking right now because the weirdest s**t just happened to me.\u201d I\u2019m leaving Fresh Thyme and parked in this large parking lot.\u201d She goes on to describe the incident: \u201cThis guy was walking like kind of close to me, kind of not, but you could tell he was like staring at me while he was walking, and he yells over to me like \u2018hey what\u2019s your name?\u2019 and I just ignored him, and I kept walking and he just kept following me.\u201d\n</p><p>Ignoring him didn\u2019t work, and he kept following her through the parking lot.\n</p><p>\u201cThis dude came up to my car and says, \u2018Come look out my car, it\u2019s wonderful, it\u2019s a Lexus, do you like it?\u2019 Like it\u2019s my car, but I didn\u2019t respond since it would have revealed that it\u2019s my car, which I believe he already knows.\n</p><blockquote class='\"tiktok-embed\"' cite='\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@haleywestco\/video\/6923296997017472261\"' data-video-id='\"6923296997017472261\"' data-embed-from='\"oembed\"' style='\"max-width:605px;' min-width:325px>\n<section> <a target='\"_blank\"' title='\"@haleywestco\"' href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.tiktok.com%5C/@haleywestco?refer=embed%5C%22">@haleywestco \n<p><a title='\"saftey\"' target='\"_blank\"' href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.tiktok.com%5C/tag%5C/saftey?refer=embed%5C%22">#saftey </a><a title='\"ohio\"' target='\"_blank\"' href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.tiktok.com%5C/tag%5C/ohio?refer=embed%5C%22">#ohio </a><a title='\"cincinnati\"' target='\"_blank\"' href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.tiktok.com%5C/tag%5C/cincinnati?refer=embed%5C%22">#cincinnati </a><a title='\"becareful\"' target='\"_blank\"' href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.tiktok.com%5C/tag%5C/becareful?refer=embed%5C%22">#becareful\n<p> <a target='\"_blank\"' title='\"\u266c' original sound haley west href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.tiktok.com%5C/music%5C/original-sound-6923297014935472902?refer=embed%5C%22">\u266c original sound &ndash; HALEY WEST \n\n<p> <script async src="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.tiktok.com%5C/embed.js%5C%22"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Instead of getting into her car, West explains she went across the street \u2013 shopping bags still in her arms \u2013 until it was safe to return to her vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>When she got to her car, she saw a water bottle sitting on top of the hood.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cI don\u2019t know if the two correlate, but it\u2019s never happened to me\u2026I gotta get out of here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before pointing out \u201cHarpers Point, Cincinnati,\u201d she adds, \u201cI just wanted to highlight that you should always be mindful of your surroundings, especially if you\u2019re a woman. \u201cBe careful out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After her video went viral, the woman followed up with a response from a viewer.<\/p>\n<p>In a now-deleted video, the user wa:rns of a dark motive for the bottle on her car\u2019s hood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a tactic used by traffickers and kidnappers to get you to exit your vehicle\u2026If you have this happen and something is on the hood of your car when you come back to it, leave it there, drive away it\u2019ll fall off on its own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, following a viral post about a zip tie drug trap, Michigan State Police issued an advice against disinformation on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s similar to an urban legend or scare-lore. Lt. Brian Oleksyk told WILX10 that the objective is just to intimidate people. Speaking about other hoaxes, such as a flannel shirt on a car\u2019s windshield or an elastic band around the side mirror, Oleksyk claims that fraudsters do not inform their victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the way it\u2019s done\u2026\u201d\u201dThey rarely prey on strangers,\u201d he claimed. \u201cIt slows down our investigation of genuine crimes.
